KOMITU ARCHITECTS

We are Noora Aaltonen, Sisko Hovila, Tuuli Kassi, Maiju Suomi, Elina Tenho and Inari Virkkala - a group of young architects who want to create socially and ecologically sustainable architecture together. We founded KOMITU in 2010 with the main aim of realizing a youth center to Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

We know each other from the start of our studies in Aalto University (former Helsinki University of Technology) in 2004. Currently most of us have graduated and are working in Finnish architecture practices working on projects ranging from housing to public buildings and urban planning.

Our collaboration with Cambodian actors began within the Cambodia Studios of Aalto University. Inari, Noora and Sisko joined an urban design course in Cambodia in 2009 and Elina, Maiju and Tuuli participated in a public buildings course a year later.

Komitu is a member of Finnish ngo Ukumbi, which aims at alleviating poverty trough participatory architecture.
